Library card registration

To register as a permanent borrower at the Ketchikan Public Library, a person will need to present a valid Alaska picture ID and a piece of mail they have received with a local mailing address. A local property tax receipt is proof of residency. Coast Guard Personnel need to present their military ID.

New or temporary Ketchikan residents are eligible for a temporary card and that card can be changed to a permanent card whenever the person has the required pieces of ID and mail. This policy is for the Ketchikan Public Library only and does not apply to the other partners in the First City Libraries Consortium. They each have their own registration policies.

As a temporary or newly arrived resident of Ketchikan, you may place a $30.00 cash deposit in exchange for borrowing privileges at the Ketchikan Public Library. When you are ready to leave town, no sooner than 24 hours after issue, and all library materials have been returned, you may have your $20.00 deposit back. $10.00 covers some costs of having a deposit program. The deposit card is valid for six months. If you do not claim your deposit when the six month period has passed, the library will consider your deposit a donation. Your deposit allows you limited borrowing privileges and use of the Internet. All borrowers are limited to two items for their first check-out. After the first two items are returned, you may have up to four items out at a time. Library equipment and Interlibrary Loan are not available to deposit card patrons. Should any item become more than one month overdue, your deposit will not be returned to you. If you have enjoyed using the library, please consider donating your deposit when you leave.
